New Longboard!!!

Made a new pig-style longboard recently, as it had been about a year and a half years since the last one. Made this one similar to my other longoard I have, just with a flatter rocker. Got a 9'8"Y blank and cut it down to a finished length of 9'2" (including a 1.5" wood tail block). I've only had it out a few times, but pretty pumped on how this is riding so far!

Mowin foam to get it going

Love planing the stringer wood

Taking a quick break

Lots and lots of sanding

Roughed out shape

Set up some lights I have this time to try to see the shadows across the top and bottom a little better, and sand it out smoother

Roughed out rails

Bottom finished, before the tail block was added

Tailblock added
The bottom has a 3/16" deep concave up front (about a 1/3 of the length of the board), and then a belly through the middle, about 1/4" rounded, and then Vbottom out the last foot and a half of the board. Nothing too extreme, so I was hoping for a good all around longboard basically.

Taped off and ready to glass the top

Laying out the glass
My friend Jordan had drawn up a cool Paisely type print and i had it printed on some thin cotton fabric to do a fabric inlay. Hyped out this turned out. keep scrolling

Laid the fabric in the last 2.5 feet of the board, with a minor arch across the edge

Mixed up some greenish/blueish resin to tint over the white and black fabric

Bottom done! The clear resin (covering most the board and the tail block) started going off a little quicker than I thought, and got a little cloudy in the tailblock area unfortunately. This kinda clouded up the grain detail of the wood, which was a bummer. I used Ambrosia Maple which has some awesome details due to Ambrosia beetles eating the wood and causing a fungus and some dark grain patterns on the lighter wood. But it's hard to see under the cloudy glass. bummer...

Then I glassed the top all clear resin, and after it was dried, I painted the rails navy color. This covered the edge of the fabric inlay on the bottom and added something to the top of the board also. Pumped how this came out. Keep scrolling

Found this black widow on our house as I walked out to hot coat the board early one morning.

Finished board! Top side

Bottom side

And then some close ups of the bottom side details:

Fabric inlay with tinted resin over it came out awesome! Definitely the highlight of the board. I put the boarder in navy around all edges of it to clean it up.
